Student's death determined to be suicide

DORSET — The drowning death of a Bennington College student at the Dorset Quarry in December has been ruled a suicide, according to state police. Hadil Marzouq, 21, was reported missing over the weekend of Dec. 17. Her vehicle was found a short time later parked at the Dorset Quarry. Vermont State Police Detective Lt. Reginald Trayah said that Marzouq's journal was found in her car. A passage inside it led police to believe she took her own life. Trayah said it's not known what prompted her to do so. Marzouq, a native of Palestine, had been staying with a host family in Bennington. She was studying conflict resolution.
