Student art show opening at SVAC attracts crowd


MANCHESTER — The annual Art From The Schools student art show at Southern Vermont Art Center drew 440 children and their families to the campus on Saturday, March 4 for its opening "Young Picassos Pizza Party."

The show, which runs through Sunday, April 2, features the artwork of students from Burr and Burton Academy, Long Trail School, The Dorset School, Fisher Elementary, Arlington Memorial Middle/High School, Stratton Mountain School, The Vermont Academy, Manchester Elementary/Middle School, Maple Street School, The Downtown School, Sunderland Elementary School, Grace Christian School, Mountain School of Winhall, Mettawee Community School, Flood Brook Union School, LiHigh School, Bennington Early Childhood School, Village School of North Bennington, Currier Memorial School, Northshire Day School, Happy Days Playschool, Home Away from Home Daycare Center, and local homeschools.

Those in attendance at the opening at the Yester House gallery were treated to music by the Long Trail School band and enjoyed pizza donated by Christos' Pizza and Pasta, Manchester House of Pizza, and Wood Fired Pizza Co. Mulligan's Pub and Restaurant, The Perfect Wife, Spiral Press Cafe and Mother Myrick's Confectionary also donated food for the party, and a floral arrangement was donated by Wildflowers Florist.

The show is free and open to the public and can be seen Tuesdays through Saturdaysfrom 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

Another show featuring local art teachers exhibit of local art teachers, SVAC instructors, and work from artists who previously taught at the Arts Center will be presented from Saturday, April 22 through Sunday, May 21.
