Three innovative local artists are opening the Studio 3 Art Gallery next to the Ann Taylor store in Manchester on June 1. The gallery will be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from June 1 to Oct. 31 with support from Manchester Designer Outlets.

The artists who are exhibiting at the gallery are Ken Ahlering, Kate Franklin, and Matthew Lerman — all are active members of the Southern Vermont Arts Center (SVAC).The three artists will be available during the opening to answer questions about the art collection on exhibit in Studio 3.

As an added feature of the Pop-Up gallery, artists Franklin, Ahlering, and possibly Lerman will be offering a variety of interesting art education classes to be taught in various art mediums, including but not limited to drawing, watercolor, acrylic painting, pastel and photography.

Children's art lessons and parties will also be available, as well as amateur Paint and Sip style classes.

Please refer to our FB page for listings of classes and information about registering. Children and adults are welcome to join the classes. Check our Facebook page for additional information and to register for an art class.

Artist Ken Ahlering is an Artist Representative for the US State Department's "Art in Embassies," a 50-year-old program that has developed and presented exhibits and permanent collections in 200 venues in 189 countries. Ahlering is a realist oil painter from Londonderry who has been painting for 60 years.

His works have been shown in many galleries in New York, New Jersey, and Vermont, and are permanently displayed in homes and establishments worldwide.

Artist Kate Franklin's concentration is oil painting, predominantly landscapes and nature.

Her impressionist style and rich colors invite the viewer to walk into the scene. Franklin received a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. She studied Fine Art at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and Rhode Island School of Design. Franklin is not only an artist, but a teacher and entrepreneur — her Wine & Painting Classes have inspired many would-be artists to pick up a paintbrush and create their own art. Franklin has been painting, exhibiting and teaching art privately for over 30 years.

Matthew Lerman has dedicated his life to exploring nature through his photography.

Lerman's photography attempts to portray a bit of the natural beauty in our environment so that others may be inspired to love the land and appreciate the importance of preserving the health of our biosphere.

Moreover, he loves showing the attractive side of life — making a rusty Mack Truck look cool or resurrecting a dying leaf as a beacon of everlasting beauty.

He spent many years teaching biology at CW Post College and when he saw the need for a marine biology textbook, he wrote one featuring his photographs: Marine Biology, Environment, Diversity and Ecology. Matt enjoys sharing his work with the hope that the viewer will appreciate the intricacies of nature and work to protect its many natural wonders.
