Letter: Thanks for supporting summer reading
It is with heartfelt appreciation that I extend thanks to Mother Myrick's Confectionery and the Northshire Bookstore for their generous sponsorship of the Manchester Community Library's 2017 Summer Reading Program. With their support we were able to offer high-quality summer programs and incentives to keep kids engaged in reading and learning.
In addition to the six Thursday morning family events we held, we were able to add a new outdoor series of three story times specifically for preschoolers called "Summer Under the Story Tree."
We are fortunate, indeed, to have community partners like Mother Myrick's Confectionery and the Northshire Bookstore, who understand the value of supporting summer reading to help children and teens retain their skills and prevent summer learning loss.
Hats off to everyone who helped to "Build a Better World" through reading. Connecting kids and books is essential to fostering life-long learning, and studies have shown that participation in summer reading programs pays off year-round.
