It's year 28 for Youth Fishing Derby

Posted
MANCHESTER CENTER — For the twenty-eighth year in a row, the Manchester Ranger District of the Green Mountain National Forest, in partnership with Trout Unlimited, is hosting its annual Youth Fishing Derby at Hapgood Pond Campground in Peru on Saturday, June 9.

Last year, 83 young anglers reeled in an impressive total of 88 trout.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with fishing set to take place from 9 to 11a.m.

The festivities will continue until about noon.

The Derby is being held in conjunction with National Fishing Week, and that Saturday is Free Fishing Day in Vermont.

Area youth, ages 12 and under, accompanied by an adult, are invited to join in the fun. Prizes will be awarded to the boys and girls who catch the longest fish and we are also hoping to have a small gift for each participant.

Donations and volunteer help are being provided by many members of the community. Anyone who wishes to donate or has any questions, please contact Brett Hillman, Wildlife Biologist, by calling the Manchester Ranger Station at 802-362-2307.
