BRSU internally hires two administrators
Randi Kulis, who currently serves as the supervisory union student services director, will be the new assistant superintendent while Sarah Reed, the current assistant principal at Flood Brook Union School in Londonderry, will be the new director of curriculum.
"It is a healthy sign when qualified leaders within the system are willing and eager to assume new and challenging roles," said Superintendent Jackie Wilson, who was appointed as interim superintendent last July and was hired for the permanent position in January.
Kulis has been an employee of BRSU since 2013 when she was hired as the special education director. In 2015, she was named the director of student services, which Wilson described as, "a leadership position that oversees all special education and student services for children in grades pre-k through 12."
Kulis is a New England native and received her bachelor's degree from Smith College in Northampton, Mass. and her graduate degree from Boston College. Before joining the BRSU, she held special education positions in Idaho and Pennsylvania. She is currently a doctoral fellow at the University of Vermont.
Reed began her teaching career in 2005 as a special educator at at Manchester Elementary School. During her time at the school she served as both a special educator and a classroom teacher. In 2011 she became the assistant principal at the Flood Brook School. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Vermont and her master's from the Woodruff Leadership Program at Castleton University.
"In Sarah's role as Director of Curriculum she will work with teachers across all six schools within the BRSU," said Wilson, "She will lead the schools through the adoption of a more standards-based approach to assessment and reporting, and she will attend to all of the many curriculum needs. The hiring committee was impressed with Sarah's work on the Farm to School initiative at Flood Brook, and her commitment to providing learning experiences that engage and motivate all children."
The BRSU is Vermont's second-largest supervisory union by area, covering over 460 miles and 2,200 students. It operates Manchester Elementary-Middle School, Flood Brook Union School, The Dorset School, Sunderland Elementary School, Mettawee Community School in West Pawlet, and Currier Memorial School in Danby.
